Senator Tom Torlakson
Representing California 's 7th Senate District, which includes most of Contra Costa County , Senator Tom Torlakson is a former science teacher with a passion for public education. He was named the California League of High Schools 2007 Legislator of the Year for three reasons: his fine work on the Senate's Education and Appropriations Committees, authoring SB 1133 to implement the CTA v Schwarzenegger settlement that distributes $3 billion owed to schools, and his efforts to strengthen the protections for K-14 education funding outlined in Proposition 98.
